The long-awaited visioning weekend took place October 18-20. The weather was beautiful and we were able to spend a lot of our time outdoors. It was great to finally get everyone together (with Kiva joining remotely at times), and the timing was perfect because the newest members of Windekind, who had just closed on True North and were able to join us. We've devoted an entire page to this event, and here are some of the highlights.
David had already arrived on Thursday, and on Friday the tents started going up in the north end. We had a great dinner of lasagna and eggplant parmesan, and took in the full moon from the deck after sundown.
Saturday was a great day. We worked and we played and we hiked (OK, that's sort of the same thing as playing). We all met at the Lavine's place (or as William and Emily call it 'Mom and Dad's place') where we had breakfast and warmed up with an exercise in trying to stay alive on the moon. After concluding we were all smarter than NASA scientists, it was time to take to the trails, where we visited everyone's favorite spot. It was inspiring to see the land of Windekind for the first time with the full community of Windekind. Then, after lunch, we got to work revealing and distilling all of the different visions we have for the future of Windekind. At the end of this page are captured some of the elements that went into the vision statement, because it would be good to keep all these in mind as we move forward- there are some real nuggets. Anyway, the statement we came up with is:
We are a community that chooses to live with purpose - embracing sustainability, sharing resources and responsibilities, and growing individually and collectively.
Special thanks to Ari for helping us through that exercise. Then it was dinnertime. Here are some pictures from Saturday to bring back the memories:
We spent some time on Sunday morning reflecting on our experiences of the previous day, highlighting and sharing them, and putting them into perspective. Then we searched for meaningful items to place into a time capsule before burying it together at one of our favorite spots at Windekind. We shared one final meal together, then went our ways, at least for the time being, looking forward to so much: wonderful new neighbors to welcome into our community, a new home for a treasured founding family, the return of a beloved member, and continued growth for all of us and for the community as a whole. Here are a few pics from Sunday:
